Synthesizers are used for the composition of electronic music and in live performances. The intricate apparatus of the sound synthesizer generates waveforms and then subjects them to alterations in intensity, duration, frequency and timbre, as selected by the composer or musician. In the field of software, synthesizers are add-ons. They create sounds that can be activated with a MIDI keyboard in a DAW.
Some DAWs have a “musical writing” feature that converts a QWERTY keyboard into a piano keyboard for playing software synthesizers.
